Happy Birthday, Lily Bear!

October 14, 2011 in Life - Family

One year ago today I had no idea what I had gotten myself into.  I remember the first night after Lily was born she was sleeping in the nursery at the hospital with the other new babies while Jake and I were itching to get as much sleep as we could in a hospital bed and fold-out chair.  Since I had been in labor the night before, and therefore didn’t sleep at all (Lily was born at 5:20am), we were craving a quiet, dark room.  Needless to say, we were in dreamland before the last nurse left the room.  Then, I awoke with a start four hours later and shook Jake.  How could we have let the baby go for four hours without nursing?!  How could we have let her spend four hours away from us?!  We rushed into the nursery and asked for her from the night shift nurses who flashed the look of “you’re just like every other annoying first time parents. Please go back to sleep.”  But they gave us the baby and we felt better.

My brother came to visit a couple of weekends ago and we spent our days watching Pitt football lose (boo), playing skeeball at Chuck-E-Cheese’s, walking Buster around the neighborhood, and cooking.  Oh, and eating everything that we cooked.  We’re good like that.  It’s amazing how quickly the time flies by when you know how limited it is.  The two days were gone as quickly as they came, but I have a feeling Dan will be back soon to play with his favorite niece.

Snow Puppy

January 18, 2011 in Life - Family

It is winter in New England.  There are about 17 feet of snow on the ground.  But my lab/pointer mix still jumps up and down, runs in circles, and clicks his toenails loudly on the floor (which is unfortunate when the baby is sleeping) at the thought of going outside for a walk.  I love that dog.  But only when it’s Jake’s turn to take him.

Our First Tree

December 19, 2010 in Life - Family

Jake and I have never been home for Christmas before and we’ve never had a baby during the holidays.  So, we didn’t really feel a huge need to decorate the house or get overly festive.  This year everything changed!  So last weekend we bundled Lily up and set off to find the perfect tree.
